Romantic partners can sometimes bear startling similarities to one another (stocksnap/Hannah Morgan)

In short:

Studies have found that that people tend to choose partners very much like themselves, with the resemblance going far beyond the demographic factors that logically bring people together.

These similarities can extend to traits as diverse as psychiatric disorders and disease, sociability and moodiness, body shape, height or whether both partners were breastfed as a baby.

What's next?

An upcoming ABC project is looking at how our choice of romantic partner is changing in a more diverse society. We'd love to hear your stories.
